Heritage Trail recognized

Pharmacist tools exhibit at VCU School of Pharmacy
The exhibit showcases historic pharmacy artifacts.

The School of Pharmacy’s new Heritage Trail has received a 2021 Certificate of Commendation from the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy. Permanent exhibits, created with input from many alums and experts, teach new and prospective students the history of pharmacy in Virginia and at the school. Exhibits include historic artifacts; videos on apothecary and pharmacy history presented by alum Al Schalow; and timelines and biographies of notable Virginia pharmacists such as Carl F. Emswiller Jr., recipient of the Remington Honor Medal; William S. Cooper, our first Black graduate; and Hilda Saunders Lewter, the first woman to become a licensed pharmacist in Virginia.
